Am I supposed to gain weight while on TOM? Should I do the diet at all? Should I take the drops?

In the book, "Pounds and Inches," which details the HCG diet protocol, Dr. A.T.W. Simeons recommends discontinuing the daily drops of human chorionic gonadotropin during menstruation. Many women dread this, as they believe that the lack of HCG, even for a few days, will disrupt their weight loss progress and cause their diet to fail. There is also no reason to believe that this is true, but there is also no reason to discontinue the diet drops. Your period will not be noticeably altered, although you may experience more severe cramping. Talk to your doctor about your concerns for advice specific to your situation.

Don't continue the drops during your period just because you're afraid you'll stop losing weight both pounds and inches and Dr. Simeons himself suggest that weight loss generally does not occur during menstruation whether you continue the injections or not. This is generally due to water retention and your weight loss should resume its typical 1/2 lb. per day progress within a day or two. It's typical to gain some water weight when TOM comes around. If you are worried about gaining you could try walking for 15 to 30 min a day. Doing that should help get rid of any extra water weight that may exist. Again make sure you talk to your doctor before doing any altering of your hcg diet and your TOM.
